Sustainability gets precious

Interview with Glenda Lopez

Q: What comes to your mind when you think about the concept of sustainability?

When I think of sustainability, I think of changes.
We have to change the way we produce and learn how to develop our own way of living, by respecting our environment.

Q: How do you envision the future of sustainability in your field?

I imagine a slow future, where companies invest in new, local, generations of jewelers, designers, and artisans: professionals with incredible experience and high knowledge of new technologies in order to contribute

About the video: we wanted to show our workshop and part of our production, to express transparency, we produce in Spain and we are proud of it, we have incredible professionals producing with the best technology and jewelry experience.

There is a lot of ignorance around sustainable jewelry as many people think, it only affects materials. The jewelry industry, in fact, is one of the most recyclable industries but recycling materials is not the only aspect to improve: the jewelry industry has to be more transparent about extraction, labor rights, inclusion, and other facts.

When we talk about sustainability in jewelry, we talk about: local production, respect of human rights, contribution to the local economy, transparency on the origin of raws, inclusive development, investigation for recycled materials within the supply chain (packaging, merchandising...).

In our case, we produce totally in Spain; every detail is created by our team and produced by young 3D designers and jewelers, with a strong vision on quality items.

Q:  Special projects or Plans for the future?

We are working on improving the sections about Circular Thinking, on our website.  If you visit it now you will find it organized in the 3 big sections:

RESET for those products created by using materials provided by customers;

REPAIR for those products in need of repair, provided by customers

RETAKE, this section is coming soon as it will offer limited editions of jewels created by using samples and left-overs of previous collections

We take this challenge seriously and we´ll continue improving, investigating, and learning how to grow as a real, sustainable brand.

Q: What comes to your mind when you think about the concept of sustainability?

We have to change the way we produce and learn how to develop our own way of living, by respecting our environment.

Q: The Glenda Lopez team and brand, share a Manifesto - what is it?

We´ve presented our own manifesto to our community in order to explain our values better. It explains what we think but... we are conscious that words are not enough.

We need facts.

Projected to the future, we are taking responsibility as creatives and entrepreneurs.

Q:  What is the sustainable process your jewelry pieces, go through?

There is a lot of ignorance around sustainable jewelry as many people think, it only affects materials. The jewelry industry, in fact, is one of the most recyclable industries but recycling materials is not the only aspect to improve: the jewelry industry has to be more transparent about extraction, labor rights, inclusion, and other facts.

to creating a great economy around jewelry products being it fashion jewelry, fine jewelry or high jewelry.

I believe "fast fashion" has been a very bad experience for the industry also in terms of quality offered to the customer. It is time to redesign our proposals and offer a new type of sustainable experience around shopping creations of value.
